Water Resource Development
Industry often needs to measure levels, flows and velocities in various environments. From river flows to traffic volumes, Hydro Tasmania Consulting can provide practical measurement and monitoring solutions for rivers and canals, groundwater, reservoirs and lakes, weirs and open channels and pipes. Critical decisions in today's information age need to be based on timely data. Our telemetry systems can provide timely access to critical data (flood warning, water quality, transmission line tensions); operational data (water levels, rain, snow mass, substation feeder inputs, pumps on/off); condition monitoring data at remote sites (voltages, gas pressures); and alarms (generated from the remote site when parameters exceed a certain value).
Our ability to combine data retrieval with solutions in data storage and reporting is one of our strengths. The modelling and database software package we use was originally developed in-house and its extensive uses include developing level/discharge relationships, flow balances, environmental data storage and manipulation, telemetry, reporting and statistics, wind rise analysis and water sample storage and analysis.
With experience founded on the development and management of infrastructure in an operating utility, we appreciate the client's needs and will work with you to develop practical, sustainable project outcomes. We currently collect data from over 300 sites throughout Tasmania, mainland Australia and overseas.
The majority of these sites contain multiple sensors and are telemetered. The experience gained and equipment required to manage a network of this size allows us to provide a level of service that has become known and respected internationally.
Using the latest technology in data acquisition, management and analysis, our team can provide such services as:
- design, construction, operation and maintenance of telemetered environmental monitoring systems
- data management and reporting
- water level, flow and structure monitoring including specialised use of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler equipment
- lake, river, tunnel and pipeline monitoring
- condition monitoring
- water sampling for laboratory or in field analysis
- yield studies and water resource analysis
- storage modelling and optimisation
- drought analysis
- feasibility studies for new water resource development.
