Tidal Power
Our commitment to the development of renewable energy resources has seen an increased focus on developing alternative types of hydro power projects, including tidal power, which may have previously been deemed uneconomic or of lower priority compared with more traditional hydro power schemes.
In the past decade Hydro Tasmania Consulting has been involved in feasibility studies for several tidal power projects around Australia. These include environmental and civil studies for the Derby tidal project in Western Australia and investigation into appropriate tidal power systems for the Norfolk Island power development off the east coast of Australia. This has built a solid foundation of experience in tidal power investigation.
Our experience in Australia has also been recognised on the global stage. Hydro Tasmania is part of an international taskforce aiming to construct the world's largest tidal power project. The Siwha tidal power plant in Korea is expected to generate 260MW of electricity from tidal energy and remediate the lake's industry-contaminated water by using seawater from the energy process to flush out pollutants.
This expertise, combined with our extensive experience across all facets of the renewable energy market, puts us in an excellent position to understand and manage the technical and commercial issues that are unique to tidal power schemes.
