Remote Area Power Supplies
As diesel fuel prices continue to rise, there is an increasing need to integrate renewable energy resources into remote area power systems. Diesel generators are common in remote areas, and renewable-hybrid systems can improve long-term fuel security and provide more stable prices.
Hydro Tasmania Consulting has analysed and developed remote area power supplies including resource assessments, concept studies, mapping, technology selection, testing, design, business case development, and implementation including small and medium to large-scale systems.
Our work has taken us to developing countries as well as areas of the developed world, including:
Small Scale (0 - 1 MW)
- battery charging systems for developing countries
- wind, solar, battery, diesel combinations
- bio-oils and diesel fuel substitution
- micro and mini-hydro
Medium to Large Scale (1 - 20 MW)
- wind - diesel
- solar thermal - diesel
- solar concentrated PV - diesel
- biomass gasification and combustion
- undersea cable connections.
We use a range of tools to optimise system performance including:
- GIS - ArcView and MapInfo
- TAPM wind modelling
- Time Studio time-series modelling
- HOMER
- RetScreen
- subcontractors with specialist expertise and tools
- ground surveys.
Our aim is to assist you to find the most appropriate technology, using the right resources, and including energy efficiency. So it doesn't matter if you have a limited budget, more sun than wind, or mountains of biomass - we can help you pick the solution that is going to suit your needs, not ours.
