Dam upgrades

With the ageing of dams both within Australia and overseas, the need for significant upgrades has increased.  These upgrades may result from ageing, changes to design standards, unacceptable risks identified, changed environmental requirements, changes in operation or changes in water usage. 
Hydro Tasmania Consulting has recently undertaken significant upgrades to the three dams along the Forth River, namely Cethana, Devils Gate and Paloona.  These upgrades have improved the flood capacity of these dams. 

The consultancy services associated with these upgrades included:

• risk assessments
• options studies
• investigations
• detailed design
• construction support.

Hydro Tasmania Consulting has provided these same consulting services to other clients within Australia, with significant dam upgrades completed for Western Australia Water Corporation and Goulburn-Murray Water.  Some upgrade services have also been provided to other dam owners within Australia and overseas.

Hydro Tasmania Consulting has also undertaken significant mechanical upgrades to a number of dams within Australia.  These upgrades have included:

• improving the reliability of spillway gates and emergency release outlets
• retrofitting environmental release capabilities
• providing remote operation and/or complete automation of gates and valves
• refurbishment of gates and valves.
